We are Mountain View Search and Rescue (formally Didsbury Search and Rescue), a not-for-profit group affiliated with Search and Rescue Alberta, who have been in operation since 1996. Our team consists of ex-military, police, EMS and civilian volunteers who work with local fire departments and the Didsbury RCMP Detachment to help find missing persons, evidence of many types, provide first aid, and augment the rescue capabilities of local EMS and STARS services. With assets based in Water Valley, AB, we are part of an extensive volunteer network, and routinely work with other SAR volunteer groups in Sundre, Rocky Mountain House, Red Deer, and Wetaskiwin as well as SAR groups outside of our region. Our group provides specialized services such as rapid response, communications, foot and mobile search crew, remote rescue crew, search team command and control. We are often called into a search to augment the various canine, equine, communications, mountain and water rescue units that provide safety to visitors and residents of the southern slopes. We can be deployed at any time with little notice any time of the year to assist with individual searches, as well as local emergencies such as wildfire, tornados, and river floods. We train extensively in the field to develop and sustain our skills at a high level of readiness. Last year our team alone contributed 1,817 volunteer hours to our community.
Every year for the past 24 years Mountain View Search and Rescue has participated in the May Long weekend event. During this annual event Mountain View Search and Rescue sets up a camp at the decommissioned Burnt Timber shell gas plant. We are there to assist the RCMP, Environment and Sustainable Resource Development, Wild land fire, Fish & Wildlife, local fire departments, EMS and the public by providing a support base, first aid, information, satellite communication and searches if necessary over the long weekend.
Mountain View Search & Rescue is able to operate due to the generosity of businesses, organizations, charities and individuals in Alberta who support our organization.
We must be activated by a Government agency in order to be deployed.
