Mt View
Search & Rescue

WHO WE ARE

To meet the diverse needs of the province, SAR Alberta has 32 teams which are spread across the province and ready to deploy at a moments notice.

Mountain View SAR (formerly Didsbury SAR) dispatches out of Water Valley, Alberta, serving the Mountain View County and surrounding regions, consisting of over 3753 square kilometres.

Search & Rescue encompasses the activities that respond to lost, missing, overdue, stranded, and/or in-distress persons. We attend to local emergencies and evidence searches for the police and/or RCMP, as well as extraordinary incidents and natural disasters, such as wildfires, tornados, and floods.

MV SAR can be deployed at any time, day or night, 365 days per year. Our services can be dispatched for any environment - rural, backcountry, and urban settings.

In rural and backcountry settings, MV SAR may be called into a search to augment the various canine, equine, communications, as well as mountain and water rescue units who provide safety to visitors and residents of the southern slope. We are often also requested to contribute mutual aid to other SAR teams in Sundre, Rocky Mountain House, Red Deer, and Wetaskiwin, as well as other teams further outside of our region when requested.

Call outs within urban setting may occur when people or communities become  isolated and without emergency services during disasters and emergencies. Individuals can also become lost in urban areas as a result of mental health issues, such as dementia or Alzheimer disease, or they can simply go missing in the confusion and chaos of a large community event.

We train extensively in the field to develop and maintain competency of our professional skills to be prepared for any incident, at a high level of readiness.

In 2025, Mountain View SAR members contributed a total of

$78,440 and 3922 volunteer hours to our community

and other regions through mutual aid deployments.
